This is a distinct location to the RAF Grantham at St Vincents House which housed HQ 5 Gp. RAF Spitalgate was so named on 29 Mar 1944 and is sometimes referred to as RAF Spittlegate.

Upgraded: Grass runway replaced Nov 1943 - early 1944

Closed: 1975; now a Royal Logistics Corps Territorial Army Centre Grantham

RAF Folkingham served as a daylight dummy and Q-site decoy or fake for RAF Spitalgate.

HQ 24 Group moved from Spitalgate in late August or very early September 1958. DAvid Lingard recollects travelling by bus (with RAF quality hard seats) from Spitalgate to RAF Rudloe Manor in Wiltshire, with a lunch break at RAF Bicester.
