At the Queen’s Hall, Binbrook
21st April 2012
from 1.00pm
Screening of the Memphis Belle, display of RAF
Binbrook memorabilia
and access to Binbrooks Lightning XR724
The film event’s principal aims are to raise funds and
awareness for the local heritage and aviation groups, promote local history
especially
that which involves a connection with RAF Binbrook, bring together as many
local stories and histories as possible and fundraise for both the Binbrook
and Brookenby Queen’s Diamond Jubilee parties. The main event is
being held in and around the Queen’s Hall, Binbrook
but we have invited the local aviation groups to open up their site on
the old airfield, now home to the Lightning
aircraft XR724.
At the Queen’s
Hall itself we have been offered the Lightning Association’s
Lightning cockpit and simulator for display. Other static displays will
include memorabilia connected with RAF Binbrook and information on heritage
museums and groups in the area.
For those who want more detailed information
there will be a series of half hour talks covering such topics as the
last days of RAF Binbrook,
Air Traffic Control, the real stars of the Memphis Belle and stories
of being an extra on the film.
We will also have two short tours of the
area visiting RAF Kelstern and RAF
Ludford Magna.
Part of the idea of the event is to involve other
community organisations and we are pleased to have the local drama society,
The Limelight Theatre
Group, presenting a short ‘period’ play. Following on from
this will be the Jazz Beans, a swing/jazz band playing a selection of
40’s
classics. The local school will be involved as too the air cadets from
Market Rasen Air Training Corps.
Throughout the afternoon the bar will
be open for your liquid refreshments. It is run by volunteers and the
profits from the bar go to worthwhile
causes.
We will then close the hall to the general public to enable the
ticketed film and buffet to commence. The buffet will have a hint of
rationed
Britain and ‘goodtime’ USA about it. We will then run the
1990 Memphis Belle film and then we will finish the day’s events
with the wartime documentary which inspired the later film.
Ticket prices
are as follows.
Adult entry to the Hall £2
Under 16 Free
Adult entry + films & buffet £10 (Must be booked in advance)
Under 16 entry + films & buffet £5 (Must be booked in advance)
Respectful period dress welcomed.
Due to the voluntary nature of the exhibitors these events maybe liable
to change without notice. We will do our utmost to ensure this is not
the case so please be understanding.
