RAF
Binbrook was home to the English
Electric Lightning. A squadron was
on 24-hour QRA (Alert) at RAF Binbrook
for many years in the all-British built fighter when the Lightning
was the mainstay of British air defence from 1962 to 1988.
The
Lightning Association is based at Binbrook and has a Lightning
on site. XR724 is in fully functional condition but only
accessible to the public by arrangement.
The Lightning Association's website gives
further
details.
Visit the Lightning Association website :: www.lightning.org.uk
An English Electric Lightning is also on display at the Bomber
County Aviation Museum. View the RAF
Hemswell pages for a photo.
