<p>460 Squadron R.A.A.F. Strike and Return. Formed at
        RAF Molesworth, November 15th 1941 C.O. Wing-Commander A. Hubbard DSO
        DFC. The Sqdn moved to RAF Breighton, on January 4th 1942. Group Captain
      Crummy, Station Commander. Aircraft Vickers Wellingtons.</p>
      <p>March 12th 1942, first operation, to Emden. <br>
  May 1 1942 first thousand bomber raid Cologne. <br>
  Sept 15th 1942 Sqdn converting to Halifaxs. <br>
  Oct 2nd 1942 Sqdn converting to Lancaster.<br>
  Nov 2nd 1942 first Lancaster Op. Stuttgart<br>
  Jan 1943 G/Capt H.I.Edwards VC DSO DFC St Com<br>
  May 13th the last of 140 raids from Breighton, 49 crews being lost whilst serving
  at Breighton.<br>
  May 14th, 460 Sqdn moved with their Lancasters to RAF Binbrook, ground crews,
  flying with the air crews, the main body being transported in Horsa gliders,
  towed by Albemarles.<br>
  May 16th 1943 first operation at mining sortie.<br>
  May 26th 1943 visit by King George VI and Queen.<br>
  Sept 16th 1943 Air-Chief Marshall Butch Harris<br>
  July 20th 1944 visit by the Duke of Gloucester<br>
  Nov 27th 1944 G/Capt H.I.Edwards flew his last op.<br>
  April 25th 1945 the last operation from Binbrook to Berchtesgaden, ANZAC
  Day, bombing Hitlers hideout, one air-craft being shot down.</p>

Other operations were "MANNA," dropping food to the starving Dutch people, "EXODUS" bringing prisoners of war back from Germany, and Italy

July 27th 1945, 460 Sqdn moved to East-Kirkby, to join "Tiger-Force" in 5 Group, to bomb Japan. Howver atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima, and Nagasaki, thus ending the war.

Aircrew killed, 1018. P.O.W. 201, Aircraft lost 181. Not forgetting, the hard working ground crews."
