RAF Metheringham Airfield Visitor Centre [map] The Metheringham Visitor Centre is 2 miles SE of Metheringham on the B1189. The Centre is located in the former ration store of the airfield and contains an exhibition of photographs and memorabilia of life on the operational airfield from the war. Nearby are concrete runway remains, peritracks and the 106 Sqn memorial. Open: Last weekend in Mar - last weekend in Oct: Sat, Sun 1200-1700; Wed 1200-1600. Jet Provost T4 at Metheringham Airfield, 2005In Mar 05 Paul Flynn (tel 07800 945 538) wrote to let us know that he has have worked with the Friends of Metheringham to put an aircraft back into RAF Metheringham. The aircraft is a Jet Provost T4 and will be based at Metheringham long term, being brought back to ground running status over the next 2-3 years. The JP, serial XS186 is a T4 version, the most powerful version built. It served at only one RAF base , RAF Manby, in a short flying career from 1964 to 1968, before being retired to ground duties, and ultimately storage at several RAF MUs. It arrived at Metheringham in Mar 2004 and has been reassembled and prepared for its respray during its first year. Further work to bring it to ground running status during 2006/07.
