442 Sqn RCAF was a day fighter squadron formed in Feb 1942 by the redesignation
and re-equipping of 14 Sqn RCAF upon arrival at RAF Digby. The Sqn
had previously
been
based in the Aleutian Islands combatting the Japanese threat to North
America. On arrival it joined 144 Fighter Wing and moved quickly on
to the New Forest in March and then again to a number of airfields in
Sussex
before the D-Day invasion which it supported.
