207 Sqn reformed
at
RAF Waddington in
Nov 1940 and was the first squadron to receive the Avro Manchester
heavy bomber. The Hampden was used during July and August 1941 to supplement
207 Sqn's Manchester aircraft which were having reliability problems.
During its two years at RAF Spilsby, 207 Sqn suffered its heaviest
losses. 154 Lancasters were lost with 511 aircrew killed.
On 25 Feb 1941 part
of the 207 Sqn complement became the third reformation of 97
Sqn.
