Sqn > Station and Base Memorials RAF Bardney Updated: 2 Oct 06 | Set into the wall is a plaque to the personnel on IX Sqn. The stone is from Kåfjord in Norway and marks the contribution of the Norwegian resistance in the Sqn's attack against the German battleship Tirpitz. This act is also recalled in a painting at RAFC Cranwell on the stairs leading to the College Hall Library. The inscription reads "IX Squadron RAF In memory of all ranks killed or missing 1939 - 1945. The squadron flew from Honington, Suffolk 1939 - 1942, Waddington 1942 - 1943, & from Bardney 1943 - 1945". << previous photo :: next photo >> |
