550 Sqn and 170 Sqn memorial at Fleville (near Nancy) in France

A Memorial Stone was unveiled to two members
of a 550 Sqn crew and a member of a 170 Sqn crew in Oct 1998. Full
details of their mid-air collision
on 1 Feb 1945 on return from a bombing raid on Ludwigshafen are recounted

here. The 170 Sqn Lancaster was based
at RAF Hemswell at the time. Much of the 550 Sqn aircraft wreckage is
now in an Air Museum at Fleville.
